How to Have Fun in London

London is often regarded as one of the world’s greatest cities.

In fact, the writer, Samuel Johnson, once said, “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life, for there is in London all that life can afford.” Samuel Johnson couldn’t be closer to the truth with his quote.

There is so much to do in London that you can never get bored. Here are some of our favourite things to do.

Visit the queen

The world is mad for Britain’s royal family. From Queen Elizabeth to Wills and Kate, the Windsor royal family is always making news around the world.

Stop off at Buckingham Palace to visit the London residence of the Queen. Feel like a VIP as you walk over the threshold into the palace. Explore the grand dining room where the royal family receive heads of state and world leaders. You can even discover the beautiful gardens where she hosts summer parties.

Get back to nature

Considering it’s one of the world’s most populous cities, London has a surprising amount of green space. Even when you’re a tourist in a big city, it’s good to get some time to relax and unwind.

Take a leisurely trip to Hampstead Heath where you will find stunning hill-top views of the sprawling city. Walk through the 320 acres and enjoy the peaceful wildlife and take a dip in the refreshing lidos.

If you are a fan of the film, Notting Hill, you can recreate some scenes between Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. Some of the most famous scenes were filmed outside Kenwood House, which sits within the park.

Try unique forms of transport

London was the first city in the world to introduce an underground railway network, so you’re probably aware of the Tube. It’s a quick and easy way to get around the city, but it’s not half as fun as some of London’s more alternative methods.

Rickshaws in London are commonplace on the streets of the West End. Kitted out with flashing lights and sound systems, you can enjoy a fun ride around town in one of these bicycle-drawn carriages.

Climb the O2 Arena

The O2 Arena is one of London’s premier music venues and has hosted some of the world’s most famous musicians. If you’re not lucky enough to be able to catch a concert while you’re in town, there’s something else you can do there instead.

This one is for adrenaline junkies. You can climb the arena to enjoy stunning views of the river snaking around the surrounding city. You’ll see all of London’s most famous buildings from up high.

Go up the tallest building in western Europe

London is known for having many of the world’s most famous buildings, and the newly-opened Shard is no exception. As the tallest building in western Europe, The Shard offers the highest viewpoint in London.

It’s worth a trip to the viewing platform to be able to take in the sights that have developed and shaped London’s two thousand year history.
