Did you have a good one? Whatever your thoughts on the meaning of the day itself, I think its a valuable chance to spend time reconnecting with loved ones, and we’ve been enjoying doing just that this year.
Here’s a little look at what we got up to....
Honestly? I think Makeup Revolution may have lost the plot.
I placed a little order back on the 28th November. Not only has it taken almost a month to send, but the customer service I’ve received in the meantime has been shockingly bad.
Ive always been a big fan of the brand, for proving that quality doesn't have to go hand in hand with large price tags.
Although some of the products I've tried have been a bit hit and miss (I'm yet to try a foundation from them that is any good), there are definitely some gems in there, and the eyeshadow palettes are every bit as good as Mac and Nars.
So even when the occasional product isnt great, Im always willing to try stuff because its so affordable.
When two weeks had passed, and there was no sign of my order and no dispatch email, I wanted an explanation.
One of the things that really makes me feel old is complaining about how quickly the year's gone, yet here I am.
It's an uncomfortable truth that time seems to speed up dramatically as you get older. There are never enough hours in the day, days in the week, or months in the year. Such is life.
2016 was a pretty major year for me. I was getting to grips with being a first-time mama, renovating a run-down Victorian house into my dream home and I also ended up switching jobs. Life has been pretty full on.
In all of that, especially over the past few months, I feel like I've sort of lost sight of the goals I set myself as part of my #Project2016.
But that's okay. The project was never about creating a stick to beat myself with. It never had strict timescales and do-or-die rules. In fact, I've talked before about why New Year's Resolutions never work, and also learnt about how to set goals that stick.
What I can see is that I've definitely made solid progress on quite a few of my goals. I'm rolling them forward into 2017 and adding a couple of new ones to the list. A quick review of how they went:
2016 is rapidly running out the door, so this will be my last beauty box posting of the year. I’ve kept my Birchbox subscription running after the last few months after ducking in and out during the course of the year, and on the whole its been great.
Nothing has impressed me as much as the Tili box, but they are few and far between, and I like treats coming through the post every month!
The December 2016 Birchbox showed up just in time to get the festive spirit flowing, with a mix of respected brands and brand new discoveries. Take a peek inside…
Hands up who loves a bit of Soap and Glory?
The beloved and much-imitated brand is a favourite of many - not just for its cute packaging and cheekily named range of products, but for genuinely great products that deliver on their promises.
Waaaaay back when the range first launched, I was unconvinced. I thought it would be all style and no substance. I thought I'd just be paying for the packaging and the hype.
But over time Ive discovered some real gems that have become must-haves in my routine.
Peaches and Clean face wash is an eternal favourite, Supercat eyeliner is one I purchase again and again, and my bag is never without their Sugar Crush hand sanitiser or the Kick Ass Super Blur stick, a recently discovered favourite.
But with such a vast range of products, there are plenty I haven't tried.
And when I saw this absolutely amazing set featured as one of Boots' Star Gift Christmas promotions, I couldn't resist a little self-gifting in amongst all my holiday shopping.
The value, the presentation and the chance to try products from the line I hadn't chosen yet really appealed to me.
For £30, you get a case crammed full of goodies. This would normally be £60 so there's a massive saving.
In fact, if you bought each of the products separately without any 3 for 2 offers, it totals over £80. That's the kind of value where it begins to look like madness not to buy it.
Cocktails in a box, making your own Christmas jumpers, festive froyos and the chance to catch up with some of my favourite local bloggers?
It could only be another INTU VIP event – and this time it was all about getting into the holiday spirit.
I am literally Mrs Christmas this year. It isn’t Theo’s first Christmas, but in some ways, it feels like it is because he was only three months old last year.
So I’ve been in the festive spirit for quite a while – and last week’s event at Intu Victoria Centre was the candy cane topping on all that.
What’s your after-dark style like?
I think most people have a go-to thing for their night time ensembles, whether it’s a femme fatale dress or a sequinned clutch that just makes them feel put together.
For me, I love a bit of leather (oh goodness, that sounds so wrong, but you know what I mean….). Leather makes me feel pulled together, smart and a bit edgy. One of my favourite evening outfits for the colder months is always leather trousers.
They’re warm (I am not about freezing on a night out at my advanced age. I even take a coat out with me and everything!) and they look dressed up.
