2016 is rapidly running out the door, so this will be my last beauty box posting of the year. I’ve kept my Birchbox subscription running after the last few months after ducking in and out during the course of the year, and on the whole its been great.
Nothing has impressed me as much as the Tili box, but they are few and far between, and I like treats coming through the post every month!
The December 2016 Birchbox showed up just in time to get the festive spirit flowing, with a mix of respected brands and brand new discoveries. Take a peek inside…
Birchbox is getting quite inventive with its presentation, and I loved the style of the December 2016 box. It comes apart like a present to reveal a very cute little maroon drawstring pouch holding the beauty goodies, and a little ‘To /From’ card, in case you wanted to be extra-nice and gift the contents to someone. I’m not that nice, though…
Ciate London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner
Ou full-size product this month is an eyeliner pen from Ciate. You can’t really go wrong here, because who doesn’t love a black eyeliner?
It’s eternally useful, if not wildly exciting. However, I know I will be using this. I haven’t tried it out yet, I’m just saving it for when my current liner runs out. These pen format ones are handy for on the go or keeping in your bag to top up with.
As someone who has struggled for many years with mastering a feline liner flick, I don’t think these pens necessarily make it any easier than a traditional liquid liner – I think it’s mainly to do with how artistic your eye is and how steady your hand! But this a great product that I’ll look forward to using.
Benefit Cosmetics Dew The Hoola
It's nice to see Benefit in this month’s box, as it’s a brand where everyone has a favourite product or two, and this is its latest offering, a liquid bronzer.
I must admit, I’ve never really understood how to use liquid bronzer. I’m not the type that puts bronzer all over my face, and I don’t really understand how to contour using a liquid bronzer, although I’m sure it can be done. This is shimmer-free, which is a good start!
With the right brush, this could work well, although I’m tempted just to pass it on to someone who would know what to do with it a bit more…
StarSkin EYECATCHER
Now this is something I can definitely make use of. I say all the time how eye bags are a major issue for me, and I’m always up for trying new creams and patches in the hope that something will help the cause!
This eye mask is made up of bio-cellulose patches infused with vitamin-rich coconut juice and brightening liquorice root extract. It promises to smooth, brighten and de-puff the delicate under eye area, which I’m pretty sure is something most people could do with after all the festive excess – or in my case, just after everyday life with my one-year-old son.
I love trying out a product like this, so I’m really looking forward to giving these a go.
Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm
It’s always great to get a mix between make-up, skincare and hair treats in these boxes, but despite their pretty packaging, I’ve never been a fan of Percy & Reed. I’ve tried several products from the line over the past couple of years and mostly my verdict has just been ‘meh’.
I’ve never enjoyed using them that much or found they has a great effect on my hair – but what works for each person is so individual. Perhaps its just one of those brands that don't agree with my hair type.
This stuff is supposed to moisturise, smooth, boost shine, soften, protect and speed up styling, which sounds brilliant – I do love a multi-tasker – so I’m sure I will be trying it out and who knows? I may just fall in love.
Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion
There’s nothing better than a good facial exfoliator, and I make a point of trying to use one once a week, with an exfoliating toner in between.
City grime and daily living can make skin really sluggish, and there’s no point buying expensive anti-aging serums and creams if they can’t penetrate because of a layer of dead skin cells.
This stuff is brimming with salicylic acid to unclog those pores, even up your skin tone and strengthen the complexion for a brighter finish. I’m looking forward to trying this out!
Verdict
The December 2016 Birchbox is brimming with festive stocking filler treats. As a little Christmas gift to someone, it would be really nice as well. A good finale to the year, and I’m looking forward to the January box already!
