No sooner had I managed to post my review on the fabulous LFBeauty April box, than my may box came hurtling through the post. I’ve seen a few things in the world of beauty sub boxes, and I’ve tried out most of them, but after my second helping of this one, I think it's a strong contender for favourite!
May’s theme was all about summer vibrancy, and with the sudden sunny weather that feels really appropriate. Inside were some more brilliant picks that put me in even more of a tropical mood. Take a peek…
Avant RNA Serum
Discovering new, effective skincare really floats my boat, so I’m intrigued by this offering, from a brand I haven’t come across before. Anti-ageing formulas usually promise the earth, so it’s great to get samples to try so can sort the real winners from the marketing hype. My dermatologist told me that retinol is where the money really is in terms of fighting aging, but as I’m pregnant right now, I can’t use it - so I’m extra interested in this lightweight formula that uses antioxidants to combat wrinkles, sagging skin, and hyper-pigmentation. This has absolutely fantastic reviews on beauty websites, but at £104.00 for the 30ml full size, it's quite expensive too. I’m a little worried I’ll get hooked!
This Works In Transit Camera Closeup
This is a product I already know and love! I always travel with this little tube of magic, which is a mask, a moisturiser and a primer all in one. Packing with soothing, repairing plant oils and a shot of caffeine too. It really does brighten, smooth and perk up your skin, and it's the ideal little take away for weekends or holidays, so I’m more than happy to get another one! One thing I didn’t know that it says in the accompany magazine, is that it can apparently double up as a lip liner if you apply it with a small brush and stop your lipstick bleeding! That seems a bit dubious to me, but this doesn’t really need anything else to add to it's clutch of talents - it's already a fab product.
Skinrepublic Bubble Purifying + Charcoal Sheet Face Mask
As a face mask freak that does one at least once a week, here’s something I haven’t actually tried yet! Bubble masks have been taking over Snapchat and Instagram recently, as they look so funny when you’re wearing them - they puff up and you literally look like you have a face full of cotton wool! This mask promises a deep cleanse that dissolves away impurities and stimulates cellular renewal. Fruit acids help to gently exfoliate while charcoal detoxifies the skin. I’ve had no end of hormonal breakouts with this pregnancy, so I’m definitely looking forward to giving this a try.
Sleek Makeup Face Contour Kit
Back when Sleek first launched, I was a huge fan of their super pigmented eyeshadows and other products. They were one of the first brands to offer high-end results on a super-budget price, and I loved it. Since then, they’ve kind of fallen off my radar, so this is a nice reminder. I have tried the face contour kit before, I think it was actually one of the very first contouring products I ever tried! And I recall that it delivered a deep, glowing finish that was perfect for nights out and occasions where I really wanted to fake a decent bone structure! The bronzer is quite deep and dark here, so you need a light hand, but it's very matte, while the highlighter is beautiful - a finely-milled, pearlescent champagne peach shade. I think I’ll prefer my beloved Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow for day, as it's a bit more subtle, but when I want impact I’ll be glad to reach for this again.
Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner
When it comes to liquid liners, I’m a tricky customer. I want the blackest finish, the finest tip and the longest-lasting formula. And I’ve already managed to find one that ticks all those boxes - the NYX Epic Ink liner. So I’ll be interested to see what this liner has to challenge that, although when something is the favoured product of cat-eye queen Alexa Chung (all hail her of the perfect flick) then of course I’m willing to give it a go. This promises a controlled application, precise finish and superior colour payoff, and liner pens are something I tend to go through really fast, so I’m excited to give this a go.
Spotlight Teeth Whitening Strips
Whitening strips are my secret weapon - no fuss, no mess, pop them on and get a subtle lift to your smile that makes everything look better. I usually put some on while I’m having a bath every couple of weeks or before an event, along with a face mask to give myself a little pampering session. If you drink tea, coffee or red wine, they’re an essential part of your beauty armoury to help lift off superficial stains and give a whiter smile. And unlike the clunky kits of old with their syringes full of hydrogen peroxide solution, strips are much easier to use, less messy and you can still talk while they’re on, so I find them ideal - plus, they’re effective but much gentler on your teeth. I usually use a brand called Mr Blanc, so I haven’t tried these ones before- apparently you have to leave them on for an hour (my others are a 30 minute job) so we’ll see what the results are like.
Another brilliant box from Look Fantastic, and I can honestly say that I’m so impressed with the two boxes so far - definitely the nicest ones I’ve received out of my long history of various beauty subscriptions. I already can’t wait for number three and if they make it a hat trick? I’ll sign up for a year!
