Glossybox Review | November 2018

Wednesday, 14 November 2018

It's sort of been beauty sub box central here for the past couple of months, as I've been receiving Glossybox and Look Fantastic, plus I sprung for the special edition Sunday Riley box and I've ordered the latest Tili box as well. Oops.

Glossybox seem to have seriously upped their game recently, and the Halloween editions they did were really good.

So the November box had a lot to live up to. The theme theme this month is beauty SOS - five essentials to come to your rescue as you gear up for the approaching party season.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

Ever since I leapt headfirst into this enthralling adventure called motherhood, I've liked to ‘joke’ that I'm 70% caffeine and 30% dry shampoo. Only it's not a joke, it's the sad reality of my life.

Washing my hair is so far down the list of things I need to do for myself and my little people, and I've come rely on a good old can of the dry stuff to tide me over. So basically, dry shampoo is always welcome in my house.

It's nice that this one is cruelty-free but it does leave a noticeable white residue - the only brand I've found that doesn't is Cola. As a brunette, this is quite important to me, although I usually use dry shampoo at night and it's sunk in by the morning, so I can sorry of deal. This smells pretty and it's nice but it's not going to tempt me away from my fave.

Stylondon Eaton Eyeshadow Palette

A new brand I haven't heard of, this was a really nice thing to get, especially as all the warm toned neutral colours are gorgeous. There are some high shine metallics perfect for party season plus a few useful matte shades for blending.

Full of beautiful bronzes and a standout cranberry foil, these are super pigmented colours. The only thing I don't like is the very cheap shiny black plastic compact, but the the shadows themselves are gorgeous. Retailing at £9.99 this is well worth that and a great addition to the box.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick ‘Girlfriend’

This was the big hitter in the box- last months spoiler item, and the reason I wanted to say subbed. Despite ‘adding to basket’ many times, I've never actually purchased from Huda, and the famous matte liquid lips are one of the most rated items.

It is an amazing thing to get in a sub box. I'm not generally a huge fan of matte, but this one really does glide on and didn't feel drying or cling to every flake of dry skin. The formula is definitely premium - infused with antioxidants and a hydration complex, it feels great to wear.

Initially, I wasn't sure about the shade as it's quite orangey, but I have to admit it looks far better on than in the tube. Lightweight and long wearing and with a transfer free finish, , this would definitely encourage me to buy more from the brand in future. You can definitely tell these have been developed by someone who loves makeup themselves.

Context Micro-Derm Regenerator

This two in one cleanser packs a real punch with professional grade microdermabrasion crystals to exfoliate, polish and purify your skin. There are also powerful antioxidants that fight free radical damage and protect skin cells as well that leave your skin hydrated.

On the whole I prefer chemical exfoliants, just because I dislike gritty scrubs on my face. But this is a nice way to reset when you just feel like you need a good deep cleanse.

Palmers’ Cocoa Butter Original Solid Formula

With the drop in temperature and the central heating coming on, skin tends to get dried out, so what's needed is a major moisture hit. Palmers are one of those beloved brands that's been around for ages and this solid balms melts into an oil on contact with the heat of the skin.

I wouldn't say it's a glamorous product but it does the job very well, packed with Vitamin E and Cocoa Butter and with a scent that feels like rediscovering an old friend.

And as a final treat there was a little sample of Chloe’s Nomad perfume popped in the box… It's a oak moss and freesia scent that is a little out of my normal favourites, but it's always good to try something a little different.

A great box this month. Glossy have definitely got their game face on and things are getting good again!
