Most of us have moments where, if we're honest, we suffer a little bit of a style wobble. We doubt ourselves and our taste and suddenly every single thing we try on somehow just looks…wrong.
At times like that, it's great to get a second opinion, but what if you took that further and let other people decide on your look?
That's what I did here.
I'd been looking forward to an Easter night out with my mama friends for a while, but when it came to deciding what to wear for it my brain sort of fell out.
I tried on a few different options, but I couldn't decide if they looked right. I've spoken a lot about how motherhood can really shake the foundations of your self-image, and I felt hopelessly confused about what to wear for a simple bar crawl.
Everything felt either too frumpy or worse - too 'mutton' . Or it sat wrong on my new post-baby frame - (the hip spread is real, mamas!) or I just didn't feel like me.
So I turned to the sway of popular opinion - and this is the result.
Leopard print camisole | Boohoo
'Jolie' coated denim pencil skirt | All Saints
Perspex and nude leather boots | Missguided
Layered lariat necklace | Stella & Dot
'Rebel Stone' bracelet | Stella & Dot
Classic Flap bag | Chanel
The collective result of a Facebook group I'm in for local mamas, a couple of very stylish friends and my tribe on Instagram was this black button up denim pencil skirt paired with a leopard cami.
The skirt has been a great recent addition to my wardrobe. It's super versatile and has been working hard for me with a pair of Converse and a breton tee for the day, as well as being a great option for evening. I love the shape, which instantly made me feel curvaceous in a good way.
A splash of leopard print for good measure came by way of this drapey cami - the wild trend is one which is showing no signs of slowing down and I'm so glad, leopard is totally my vibe.
A pair of perspex and nude leather boots finished the look off nicely (and also helpfully ensured that I didn't need to try and squeeze a pedicure into the rushed 15 minutes I have to get ready once the kids are in bed. Winning at life.)
For accessories, I added a layered lariat necklace and a couple of stacked gold bracelets and the sophistication of my beloved Classic Flap bag was all it needed.
