What have you got planned for your 2020 festivities?
Nothing is going to be the same this year, but it's all about looking to the positive and appreciating the little pleasures. That's why the December Birchbox was so welcome when it arrived on my doorstep.
True, all our Christmas parties have been cancelled or will be happening on Zoom, but this little arrival gave me a touch of that festive spirit. I haven't been a Birchbox subscriber for a long time, but I saw the box spoilers for this edition and had to get in on the action.
This month's treats were presented in this very stylish, forest green quilted velvet zipped pouch. I think it's easily smart enough to use as a little clutch, or a nice makeup bag.
It's nicely made and the set would make a really pretty gift for someone.
Birchbox Dusky Pink Eyelash Curlers
If you want to be bright-eyed and beautiful, lash curlers are an absolute must. My eyelashes are absolutely pin-straight, so I love a good pair of curlers.
I love the rose gold and pink colourway of these, and they feel sturdy and well made. I haven't tried a new pair of lash curlers for ages, so I'm looking forward to testing these out.
The pretty design will look gorgeous on my dressing table too.
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner
I used to be big into Eyeko when I was a teen. At the time it was a very niche, manga-inspired brand, nothing like how it is today. But they've always been great at eyeliners.
The pen style applicator is ideal for getting a precise line, whether you want a tiny enhancement or something more major. This liner also has a fade proof formula to see you from day to night.
Queen of the cat eye, Alexa Chung, also says this is her favourite liner!
Chella La Vie Eyeshadow Palette
This cute little quad caught my eye because the shades are well thought out - there's two high shimmers - a light pearl pink and a stunning yellow gold - and two rich mattes - a dark chocolate colour and an apricot.
These are all the shades I would need on a daily basis. A lot of time I get a bit overwhelmed with too much choice and I just want something that is easy to grab - and this would definitely work.
I haven't heard of Chella before, but the shades are gorgeously pigmented. The brand is vegan and cruelty free, which makes it even better and I can see this becoming a daily essential.
Lapcos Charcoal Exfoliating & Cleansing Pad
Quite a while back, I sacked off makeup removal wipes in favour of Face Halo, which are reusable microfibre cleansing pads.
This takes things a step further by also exfoliating at the same time. It's filled inside with charcoal powder, which is supposed to draw toxins and impurities to the surface.
There are also rice and soybean extracts for hydration and anti-aging. I'm looking forward to using this to give my dull winter skin a boost.
Percy & Reed Big, Bold and Beautiful Instant Dry Volumizing Spray
This one is cheating a bit, because I already use this product and love it. It's such a good root booster for giving your hair that extra push.
If you have long hair like me and it gets all flat and sad at the roots, a little spray of this freshens and adds volume and texture in one spray.
Humidity, gravity, grease… There are so many factors that can make hair less than dazzling, and this spray is a really simple way to sort it all out.
I love that I now have a mini version for my travels (whenever that's allowed to happen again!)
Benetint Love Tint Cheek and Lip Stain
The original Benetint has been around for so long now, and birthed a million spin-offs and dupes. If you're looking for a low-key, sheer flush that stays put all day, it's definitely a winner.
I've actually been wanting a tint to get some of that nonchalant French girl beauty look and was looking into buying the Victoria Beckham one, but I'm glad I can try this out first and see if it's a type of product I get on with.
So that is the festive Birchbox, and I'm pretty impressed! A really well thought out selection of products to cheer up this dark bit of the year.
