Mama Style | Shock In Pink

It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? I haven’t posted any fashion content for quite a while now but as the world continues to open up more, there’s additional reasons for getting dressed up and I am here for it,

As a full time working mum, I always face a balancing act when it comes to clothes. It's important for me to wear outfits that allow me to express myself and my mood. So much of our time goes to being good mothers and good employees, and fashion is a tool that helps us reclaim a little bit of ourselves. It’s something that’s just for me, and that’s rare these days. 

Then again, as I do live in the real world with two kids and a dog, outfits also have to be practical and fit my lifestyle. 

And this is the real reason that I love a good shirt dress. Flattering and easy to chuck on, they’re also supremely versatile - from board meetings, to park visits and the school run, it's all about how you style it. This piece can either be made demure with a longline blazer and closed toe shoes, supremely casual with a denim jacket and trainers or - as I’ve gone for here - made into something you can socialise in.

Black is definitely my best friend, but when I do wear colour I like to go bright, so the insane, Pepto-Bismol pink hue of this dress appealed to me. 

Loose fitting, the length of this also makes it ideal for those days when I’m feeling a little more body conscious and I want to be covered up but still wear something loose and breezy for hotter days. The dress would also translate into autumn with knitted tights and riding boots.

Adding the harness on top gives extra structure and detail to the loose fit, although a knotted belt could do this just as well. 

Unbuttoning the skirt slightly to create a slit also shows off these fab rope sandals, which can even be tied further up the leg for more of an evening look. Topped off with some simple low-key shades, you have an outfit that makes a statement but takes seconds to put on.
