Is it just me, or does being stylish get a LOT harder in the winter months?
As well as the practical issue of how to keep warm without looking bulky and shapeless, I just feel less inclined to try at this time of year. I'm usually extra tired, run down and just wanting to hibernate.
The show must go on though, and sometimes I manage to hit on a combination that is both snug, practical and a little on point. Then I wear it to death until next Spring!

The ongoing trend for maxidresses over the past few years has been one I've really embraced. For a busy working mum, they are the ultimate throw-on-and-forget item and suit literally every occasion, from work meetings to school runs, drinks with friends and even formal events when styled right.
That's why I'll never hesitate to add another to my collection, and this one had to be mine. In a soft nude colour that works across seasons, it features a buttoned collar and sunray pleated skirt, with the edgy sophistication of leather (the vegan kind!).
To battle the steeply dropping temperatures, I layered up one of my secret weapons. The thin Heattec under layers you can get from M&S and Uniqlo are a great way to keep cosy without adding bulk.
Layer them under almost anything to winter proof it. When it's really chilly I have one of their roll necks or long sleeved tees and a pair of thermal tights on under anything I wear!
On top I added another winter saviour - a long line Ultralight Down jacket. Again, I have a few of these in various colours and styles and they work really well for popping on under other coats as an extra layer that doesn't give you a really bulky silhouette.
I added a classic pair of black suede boots and my favourite classic tote and was ready to brave the outdoors.
